6:00pm
Here are a few words from the Mission Board Chairman Rev. Bob Akroyd, inviting you to join Covid 19: A Call to Prayer on Sunday 25th October 2020:
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5, verses 16 to 18
Paul reminds us that prayer is an integral part of the daily life of the Christian. God’s will for us is to be a people who are consistently and persistently joyful, prayerful and thankful. However, there are times when prayer is urgent, immediate and specific. David captures one of these moments in Psalm 70:
Hasten, O God, to save me; come quickly, LORD, to help me. …
But as for me, I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; LORD, do not delay. Psalm 70, verses 1 & 5
Today, we as a church and we as a nation are in one of these moments where we need God to intervene urgently and immediately. Prayer – personal prayer, family prayer and corporate prayer – is the God-given means for us to cry out for help and hope.
So can I encourage all the people of the Free Church to set aside time to pray on October 25th.
Pray individually, pray in your family and pray in your congregation.
Pray for the nation and pray for the world. Pray that God would be pleased to bring this global pandemic to an end. Maybe you are not a regular pray-er and maybe you are not yet clear in your relationship with God. If that is the case, can I encourage you to pray for yourself as you pray for the nation.
Finally, I am reminded of the words that John Calvin commenced each service in Geneva which remind us of the power of the one to whom we pray,
Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 124, verse 8
